IKEA Supermarket DIY {under $50}
Part of Louisa’s new room was to build a play kitchen.
The original idea was to purchase a play kitchen/ supermarket . We looked around in stores, but everything we saw, was either too small, too expensive or too plasticy.
So we decided to take this in our own hands and purchased 3 IKEA Babord Shoe Racks, $9.99, a couple of 2x4s, some fabric and various accessories (baskets, plastic fruits, miniature cans and bottles,…).
This is how it turned out:
And here the Step-by-Step instructions:
{IKEA Babord Shoe Racks, $9.99}
{Attach the 2x4s at the corner with screws}
{half way done!}
{the same thing with the back, just add one more shoe rack on top}
{Staple the IKEA fabric to the horizontal beam}
{Cut out a sign for the market}
{paint it and add all the accessories}
{We attached the sign with string}
{Done! Cost under $50, accessories are all from the Dollar Store, Miniature Food is from World Market}

Hey there! This is my 1st comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and say I truly enjoy reading through your posts.
Hello this is a great post. I was curious if I can reprint some of it on my own blog? I would obviously link back to it so my readers could view the complete article on your site. Please let me know if that’s fine with you. Thanks either way.
Hi just thought its interesting.. This is twice now i’ve landed on your blog in the last 2 days searching for completely unrelated things. Spooky or what?
This is awesome!!! I don’t have kids yet but certainly will make this adorable supermarket for the future ones!

I have been looking for ideas on how to make a grocery store for my kids playhouse, thanks for the inspiration.
Love the market idea! We were looking for a way to store/display all our kids wooden food. I’m also in Canada, but I don’t see those shoe racks or anything comparable online – maybe they are only in store?
I saw them at Zellers! They have dark and light wood:-)
Thank you so much for posting this wonderful tutorial. I had a couple of those Ikea shoe racks for years and I ended up using them to make my very own market for my kids. They love it!!
I blogged about it and linked to your instructions here: http://www.blueberryjunkie.com/?p=777

I LOVE this idea, we’ve been trying to find an idea like this for our little guy who loves to pretend to shop. But these shoe racks aren’t available at Ikea anymore, any thoughts on something we could use instead?
