Fabric Lanterns {DIY}

May 18, 2011 |  by  |  Blog, DIY, Home & Decor, Party, Summer

Hi guys!

I am house sitting today at my friend Miriel’s, which gives me some time to finally finish this post. Have you ever heard of lampions? Well, it’s the same as lanterns, only that I didn’t really find anything when I searched on google. In Germany we say lampion, and everywhere else in the world we say lantern I guess;-)

This is a beautiful , inexpensive decor for any kind of party, even a wedding or just a simple garden party!

You will need:

Instructions:

1. Wrap your fabric around a tin can or something similar.

2. Cut fabric and sew together on long side.

3. Trace two circles on to carton (use tin can) and cut out. Take second circle and cut another smaller circle inside. This will be the top of the lantern.

4. Cut plastic cup to hold a tealight.

5. Glue plastic cup to first circle.

6. Make little cuts on the edges of your fabric and glue circles to each end.

7. Make 2 and 2 cuts on opposite sides on the top circle and attach string to it, to hang the lantern.

8. Cut a couple of 1 inch wide fabric pieces and glue them on the bottom of the lantern.

9. Align lanterns on a string and you are ready to party!

More cute diy lanterns are here, made out out paper and fabric. And here a diy on how to make a wood and fabric lantern…and mason jar lanterns….and gypsy lanterns…ohhhh..and my favorite, a doily lantern!!
