German Plum Cake {Plumtastic Recipe}
Is it plum season? I don’t know, but they laughed at me at the grocery store so I bought a bunch! I remember my Mom making “Pflaumenkuchen” or “Zwetschgendatschi” all the time. When I looked for recipes, I found Mowielicious, a guy that bakes and takes beautiful pictures of his creations- what a treat!
I used his plum cake recipe and what I really liked, he sprinkled thyme on top!
Recipe:
65g butter
220ml milk
400g plain flour
1 packet (7g) dry yeast
1 large egg
A pinch of salt
Seeds of 1 vanilla bean *I used vanilla sugar
65g sugar
2kg plums, stones removed, quartered
1 small bunch of thyme
1. Warm milk and butter in a pot until milk dissolves.
2. Place all other ingredients into a bowl (not the plums & thyme), add the warm melted milk/butter mixture and mix by hand until smooth.
3. Cover the bowl with a towel and let dough rest till doubled in size. Preheat oven to 175˚C and grease a baking tray.
4. Take dough and roll onto baking tray. Cover the whole surface.
5. Cover the dough with plums and bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven, allow to cool, then sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and fresh thyme leaves.
Wrap in some wax paper and bakers twine as a cute gift idea.

…Sneakers…
To everyone a plumtastic day!

Looks divine! There is something so perfect about a treat wrapped in wax paper. It’s like your Gran just did it up for. Thanks for linking to ShabbyNest so that I could find you.
I Love me some Pflaumenkuchen…My grandmother and all my German aunts made this and we ate it every evening while I lived in Germany. Recently we found just the right plums at a local market and mother and I made dozens of these cakes and froze them. Its been over twenty years, but one taste of this cake brought me straight back to my Grandmothers kitchen. Love it <3
