Upholstered Tree Stumps

June 7, 2011 |  by  |  Blog, DIY, Home & Decor, Ikea Love, Summer

If you have one of those lying around in the garden, why not give them a purpose?!

You will need:

- Tree stump

– Pillow filler

– Staple gun

– Fabric (Ikea)

1. Cut a fabric circle, approx. 2 inch larger than your tree stump.

2. Take a hand full pillow case filler and staple it to the top.

3. Lay your fabric on top and staple to the stump.

4. Cut a long piece of fabric, fold it, lay it around your stump and staple to hold.

5. Finished!

Did you hear of the STUMP project yet? It began in NY city in 1999. Madelon Galland worked hard to take NYC tree stumps under her wing and upholster them. She’s inviting people worldwide to join her in giving abandoned urban tree stumps a second life. Her website offers fanatasitc examples of post-upholstered work.

Voila, this is it for today. Enjoying the warm weather!

  4. What a cute idea, why didn’t I think of that? And you used BIRCH stumps, I love, love, love birch. I’m jealous :) They look kind of like the hat my dad used to wear, like train engineers wear. Blue and white striped denim. That would be so cute for me. Thank you!

  5. love the idea, i have 14 stumps to be used around a campfire. just wondering how would the covers hold up in the weather? I would not want to take off and put on all the time. what about using an oil cloth, but what about the filling. how did yours work out?
