Is your bookcase looking a little blah? Forget photo albums, cookbooks and that collector’s edition of Stanley Kubrick’s Space Odyssey’, these animal bookends are about to be your favorite item on the bookshelf. Go wild and make these DIY animal bookends in just a few simple steps.

You will need:

Plastic animals
Concrete Mix
Small cardboard box
Neon yellow spray paint

How to:

1. Cover the small cardboard box with plastic wrap to use as a mold. A silicone mold will work as well. Just make sure to coat the inside with oil before adding concrete.

2. Mix the concrete (see instructions on the package) and pour it into the mold. Shake the mold to get rid of any air bubbles and to level the surface of the concrete.

3. Place the mold on a flat surface and leave to set. This will take about 24 hours. (You can also use fast-drying concrete, that takes about 3 minutes).

4. After the concrete has time to set, carefully remove the block from the mold, cut the plastic animals in half, spray-paint and dry them, attach the head to the concrete block with Epoxy bonding agent.

  1. Wow, I really like this! How did you make the concrete to shape that way?
